Albert Fitchett Sr., 92, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Sentara Nursing Home, in Hampton, Va.

A resident of Hampton, Va., Albert retired from Hampton Roads Academy (HRA) after 23 years of service and was inducted into the HRA's Wall of Honor in April 2001. During his years of service, Albert was a colleague, friend and advisor to many. He also served in the 761st Black Panther Tank Battalion, the Army's first black tank battalion, which recorded 183 straight days of combat including key action in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tucker Fitchett Sr. and Lucille Palmer of Eastville, Va.; brothers, Glander Fitchett, Tucker Fitchett Jr. and Authur Robinson.

Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 57 years, Sadie Fitchett; son, Albert Fitchett Jr., daughter-in-law, Nona Brown-Fitchett, and grandson, Christopher 'CJ' Brown. He is also survived by his sister, Laura Hill; sisters-in-law, Laura Mitchell, Lucille Hatton, Edith Fitchett; brother-in-law, Sherman Holland, his wife Betsy; and a host of nieces and nephews.
